Young Ladies’ Grand Institute
A Catholic Women’s Organization
The Young Ladies Institute (“YLI”) is the oldest Catholic women’s organization in the United States. It was founded on September 5, 1887 in San Francisco, California by three (3) young women: Annie M. Sweeney, Mary E. Richardson, and Emily Coogan to help a friend who was ill and did not have any financial means. There are over 7,000 active members in YLI and we are located over four (4) states: California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.
Our YLI Institute Chapter, Maureen #136, has been affiliated with St. Joseph’s of Cupertino Church since 1930 and is approximately 60 members strong. Our organization promotes friendship, spiritual development, and service for all Catholic women regardless of age and/or race. We raise funds to support our parish and school, community, diocese seminarians, academic student scholarships and other social interests and responsibilities that embody works of mercy. We have many fun fundraising events and social gatherings.
Being a YLI member provides many opportunities to offer services in our parish and local community, build lasting relationships, and develop leadership skills to name a few. All Catholic women who are 14 years of age or older are invited to join our wonderful group of dynamic women. If you would like information on how to become a member, please contact maureeninstitute136@gmail.com.
Meetings: 3rd Thursday of every Month at 6:30 PM in the St. Joseph’s of Cupertino Church Community Center.
