Listening Sessions for the Synod 2022-2023 that Pope Francis has called for are now available. The Catholic Church wants to listen to inputs of people to help inform the Church of the future. Everyone, regardless of color or status or faith, is invited to participate whether he or she goes to church every Sunday, or has fallen away. These listening sessions are designed to listen carefully to what people have to say, to take account of their inputs, ideas, concerns, hopes and fears. Facilitators are there to simply take your inputs without judgment and no person will be identified with his or her inputs. At the end of the listening sessions, inputs are colllcted into a report and submitted to the Diocese. The Diocese then gathers all the reports from the different parishes into a single report to be submitted to the USCCB. The USCCB then consolidates the report and submits these to the Vatican.
Facilitators are trained to listen empathetically to the voices of particpants. In a listening session participants are broken idown into small groups of seven. Each group has a facilitator and a note-taker. Note takers are asked to remain neutral and avoid biased opinions. They are to listen carefully to what is being shared and to take note as faithfully as possible the essence of the shared opinion, thoughts, or ideas of each particpant without identifying the name of the participant.
Facilitators in the Listening Sessions are Ishani Fernando, Janice LaMotte, Kelly Morris, Maureen Pavy, and Carol Ruiz. Note-takers are Maria Arroyo, Ana Gawrosch, Fr. Mendi Nguyen, and Justin Read.
There are two Listening Sessions in Zoom: Tuesday, February 15th, and Thursday, February 24th. The In-Person Listening Session is scheduled on Sunday, March 6th, at 10:45 am in the Parish Hall. Each listening session is alloted no more than two hours.
